Why we built this
The most common image conversion task — converting an iPhone HEIC photo to JPG — requires uploading your personal photos to a server you don't control. Most tools that do this are slow, covered in ads, and require you to create an account. We thought that was unnecessary.
Modern browsers are capable of converting, resizing, and compressing images entirely locally. The technology has been available for years. We built Zapixx to make that capability accessible to everyone, with a clean interface that gets out of your way.
How it works
When you drop a file into Zapixx, your browser processes it using JavaScript and the HTML5 Canvas API. For HEIC files, we use a WebAssembly-based decoder (heic2any) that runs entirely in your browser tab. The resulting file is created in your browser's memory and downloaded directly to your device.
At no point does any file data leave your device. Our servers never see your images. We don't have the infrastructure to receive them, and we don't want it — keeping hosting costs near zero is part of how we keep the tools free.
Privacy
We collect anonymous usage analytics (which tools are used, not what files are processed) to understand where to invest development effort. We use Google AdSense for advertising, which may use cookies. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The one thing we will never do: send your file data anywhere. That's the core promise.
